Description:Other Pictures of Red Duke (click to see larger version):
Red Duke came to us with what appeared to be a bladder infection and ended up being bladder stones. We've had them surgically removed, but he will need to be on special prescription food for the rest of his life to prevent any bladder stones from forming again. The food works by making him very thirsty, leading to frequent heavy urination. If he doesn't get the food and sufficient water he is in danger of stones so we have no options. The bad news is that this makes it impossible for Red Duke to be properly house-trained. If taken out a lot, as he is at his foster home, there aren't a lot of accidents, but given that none of them are his fault it's importantto clean up but not scold him for what he can't fix. Likewise, the food causes loose bowels and that can sometimes lead to accidents. Red's other problem is that he sleeps soundly and startles easily and when that happens he can be snappy. His foster family knows his quirks and has worked out a way to wake him safely, but it's a concern that makes it best for Duke to remain in his foster care where he is happy, healthy, and glad that he's in a home where they can adapt to all his needs and still share loving with him!
