When Oscar started having problems walking his owner put him in the backyard, in 100+ degree temperatures, so he wouldn’t have accidents in the house. He was eventually taken to a shelter where we rescued him. The poor guy was infested with fleas and his fur was filthy & matted, but we found him to be the friendliest boy despite the neglect he had suffered. Oscar was immediately transported to Safari Veterinary Center in the Houston area to diagnose his mobility issues. He had an old back injury that was never treated, but fortunately he was deemed a candidate to receive stem cells and underwent treatment & was also given medication to dissolve the scar tissue affecting his mobility. Oscar stayed at Safari for 6 weeks of intensive physical therapy and recovered very nicely.

He still has a bit of a limp from the old injury, but can run and keep up with the other dogs in his foster home very well. Oscar loves meeting new people and just wants someone to love him. Oscar gets along with the dogs in his foster home and he does great with gentle, older children. We are unsure how he is with cats. He is housetrained and knows how to use a doggy door to go outside and do his business. Oscar is crate trained, but doesn’t require crating when his foster parents are away. He is not destructive and doesn’t make messes. Oscar has taken Cosequin since coming into rescue and we recommend that his new family continue some type of joint supplement to maintain his joint health. His foster parents will send a bottle with him when he goes to his adoptive home. Maybe that home will be yours?
